These are all signs that you should be able to see for yourselves, but if you’re even unsure about a potential issue, don’t be afraid to call our office in Pflugerville. We can get to you in a jiffy and professionally inspect your roof.

But until then, let’s look into some signs that your roof needs to be repaired or replaced.

Something’s Wrong With The Shingles
One of the easiest-to-spot, tell-tale signs of a damaged roof is an abnormality in your shingles. This can mean a lot of different things. For instance, if there are shingles missing, broken or peeling off the roof in any areas, you’re definitely going to need a roof repair. If there are a lot of shingles afflicted with these ailments, then you will likely need to replace the entire roof. After all, the shingles are essentially the armour of the roof, and they need to be wholly intact to ensure that the inside of your home is protected.

Also, you can search for discoloration. This can mean shingles that are darker than the majority, glossy or wet in appearance, or substantially grimier than the rest of your roof. These are all different signifiers of potential water damage in your roof, another ailment that would need to be addressed.

Additionally, if there is damage surround fixtures on your roof (your chimney, piping, skylights, etc.), you most likely need a roof repair. This will most likely be in the form of peeling or deteriorating as these areas of a roof are the fastest to submit to weathering. If you catch these issues earlier, we can usually confine the damage and repair just that specific area!

Finally, be on the lookout for tiny fragments of shingles in gutters or underneath overhangs of the roof. This is a sign of shingle deterioration — yet another reason for roof repair or replacement.

How’s Your Paint Looking?
Another sure-fire sign that you’re going to need to repair or replace your roof is if you see damage to the paint on the exterior of the house. Look where the walls and the roof meets, and if your paint is blistering or peeling off, this is an indication that you have faulty gutters, or too much humidity in your attic.

On the inside of your home, look for discoloration and/or water staining on your walls and ceilings. This means that there is moisture getting into your home, most likely from your roof. This type of damage usually requires a roof replacement, but every case is different.

How’s The Weather?
Ha, trick question! The weather shouldn’t be getting into your house! Well, through the roof, at least. If you notice streams of light coming through your roof in the attic, this means your roof has holes in it. Additionally, your roof needs to be repaired or replaced if you notice water dripping from the ceiling after a storm.

Honey, is the energy bill higher than usual this month?
If you’re asking this question consistently, you may need to repair or replace your roof. A properly functioning roof is weather-tight, so an increased energy bill could be the result of a comprised area of your roof that’s letting outside air in, causing your HVAC system to work harder, ultimately raising your energy bill.

Structural Issues
While all these different warning signs are important to address, be certain to take care of any sagging you notice in your rafters, roof, or roof deck. This is a sign of damage that could result in collapse if not dealt with. That being said, if addressed promptly, you may not need to replace the entire roof!
